Loma Vista, Big Sur, California

View of Cacti Garden at Loma Vista

Property Description:
Loma Vista was built in 1937 by Alice and Steve Jaeger as the first filling station and diner on the newly constructed Carmel-San Simeon Highway.

Alice was one of the Post family grand-daughters and Loma Vista was their home. It became a spot where local people could sit and talk, have a beer and a sandwich. Because there was virtually no communication between homes in those days, people gathered together to exchange gossip, news, and weather information.

Alice and Steve's place was a convenient and welcoming spot for doing just that. They also began growing prize winning begonias. They planted many unusual types of cacti which are still flourishing here today.

One of ten commercial properties on the whole 90 miles of Big Sur coastline. Businesses located at Loma Vista include:
ARS Art Studio & Gallery
Big Sur Bakery & Restaurant
Big Sur Garden Gallery and Gift Shop
Big Sur Shell service station and mini-mart
